St. Peter’s is a dual pathway independent school. Our curriculum design is informed by both the New Zealand Curriculum and the International Baccalaureate (IB). While the New Zealand curriculum is undergoing a major national overhaul, the IB programme undergoes continuous, cyclic reviews. As an independent school, we have the flexibility to review all curriculum updates and selectively integrate elements that enhance our offering, ensuring our students receive a robust, future focused education.
How this impacts your child:
- Years 10–13: Students continue under the current curriculum and assessment systems. These will be phased out over time as national qualifications transition, but NCEA remains a fully supported, rigorous, and meaningful pathway at St. Peter’s during this period.
- Years 7–9: Students will engage with refreshed curriculum content and progress through updated assessment frameworks (New Zealand Certificate or International Baccalaureate) as they move into senior years.

Timeline for National Qualification Changes
- 2028 (Year 11): The Foundational Award replaces current Literacy and Numeracy NCEA Co-Requisites.
- 2029 (Year 12): The New Zealand Certificate of Education (NZCE) replaces NCEA Level 2.
- 2030 (Year 13): The New Zealand Advanced Certificate of Education (NZACE) replaces NCEA Level 3.
