Success on Broadway!

The inaugural Broadway Extravaganza performance shone bright!

New to the Performing Arts calendar this year, Broadway Extravaganza is an exciting showcase featuring curriculum and co-curricular Dance, Drama, Music and Musical Theatre students, as well as winners from the Bevan Cup.

More than 120 students, comprising mostly Year 7-9 students, with strong support from Year 10-12 students in various onstage and offstage roles, took part in the inaugural performances.

The Year 7-9 co-curricular Performing Arts groups started preparing for Broadway Extravaganza in Term 3, within their weekly lunchtime or after-school rehearsals.

Our Year 9 Musical Theatre class, where students work towards becoming a triple threat (i.e. able to perform in music, dance and drama), displayed their talents in their opening number from Matilda. They gave the performance so much energy that it really set the tone for the rest of the show!

The Prep and Junior Drama Club showcased hidden talents that wouldn't normally be seen on stage in other school productions, performing scenes from various plays, including Shakespeare. We look forward to more performances from them next year.

The Revolutionize Dance Troupe made up of Year 7-8 students, choreographed by Year 12 IB Dance student Charlotte, was another highlight.

Since Term 2, our junior strings, wind and brass groups have grown to impressive numbers, meaning our junior orchestra and bands were able to collaborate successfully with the Prep Choir and soloists to perform at the Broadway Extravaganza.

It was wonderful to also audition several self-directed solo and group items at the end of Term 3. With a selection of curated group items from the winners of Bevan Cup, the Broadway Extravaganza line up was complete.

Our team of passionate Performing Arts staff have worked tirelessly behind the scenes over the past few months to curate Broadway Extravaganza, to make it more inclusive, more diverse, and more collaborative than our usual youth production, and it is safe to say they successfully achieved that goal.

We would like to acknowledge the incredible support from our Year 10-12 students, either on stage or in the crew behind the scenes, both in the weeks leading up to the show and the performance week itself. Leadership is service - and what a great experience for our maturing students to learn how to communicate, to engage, be patient, and work with our budding younger students, representing what talent and hard work can lead to.
