Our Welcome
head of school welcome

Kia Ora,

Thank you for your interest in St. Peter’s, Cambridge.

At St. Peter’s, we care deeply that school is a place where young people feel safe and confident to be themselves, and where the best efforts of students and staff are seen and celebrated. We are equally passionate about the power of teaching and teachers to influence the wellbeing, growth, and self-efficacy of young people, regardless of their background or starting point. St. Peter’s is a school where people matter, relationships are prioritised and respect is a central tenet.

St. Peter’s is a boarding school, which means there is a strong beating heart here 24/7. We offer our boarding students a comfortable and supportive home in an outstanding educational environment and prioritise a sense of belonging that is vital for wellbeing and learning. And for us, boarding is not just about the student – it is about the whole family. We pride ourselves on the close relationships we develop not just with each and every student, but also with their families: this is key to ensuring our students feel settled and supported in their home away from home.

We set high expectations for all students to help prepare and position them to flourish in the next stage of their lives, whichever academic or career pathway they choose. Our teaching strives for connection over content so that the learning feels transformational and not transactional in its delivery.

This is true in the co-curriculum too, where a broad range of activities not only leads our young people to discover passions but also helps to forge friendships, sharpen minds, build character, and nurture belonging. In all settings, we promote a pastoral mindset, which, alongside our Special Christian Character, provides a rich tapestry of care that not only makes our students feel safe but safe to be themselves.

At St. Peter’s, we pay special attention to leadership, knowing that whatever we pay attention to has the capacity to transform. We support our young leaders to lead on culture first and to be responsible stewards of the lives entrusted to them – whatever the setting. Through leadership, we are confident that we are preparing our young people not just to make a living in the world, but to make a difference.

And finally, at St. Peter’s, we acknowledge and value the close partnership with parents and caregivers in supporting our young people to thrive. It is the strength of these partnerships that provide the most secure guarantee of achieving the School’s founding vision of a holistic education that develops mind, body, and spirit.

From the beauty and scale of our campus to the culture and values we stand for, the best way to truly appreciate what St. Peter’s is all about is to experience it for yourself.

I look forward to seeing you soon.
Best regards / ngā mihi,

Marcus Blackburn
