Service at
St Peter’s
St. Peter's offers an enriching array of service opportunities that allow students to engage with and support their community while developing valuable leadership skills. Through partnerships with organisations such as the Salvation Army, Te Awa Lifestyle Village, the Refugee Orientation Centre, and Waikato Hospital, students are able to make a tangible impact in various settings.
These partnerships provide diverse experiences, from aiding the homeless and elderly to supporting refugees and participating in hospital volunteer work. Additionally, students have the chance to attend the World Vision Leadership Conference, where they can enhance their leadership skills and learn about global humanitarian efforts.
These service activities not only foster a sense of responsibility and empathy but also prepare students for future challenges, making them well-rounded individuals ready to contribute positively to society.
Student Volunteer Army Awards
St Peter’s recognises students for service with SVA Service Awards, which are initiated by the Student Volunteer Army (SVA) and designed to formally acknowledge and celebrate the volunteering efforts of students across New Zealand.
Key Features of the SVA Service Awards:
Students earn pins at different milestones, starting from 5 hours of service (Member Pin) and progressing through Bronze (32 hours), Silver (250 hours), Gold (500 hours), and a special Top Volunteer Award.
Students log their volunteer hours in the SVA app, which helps them build a comprehensive record of their service activities. This Summary of Service can be used for job or scholarship applications, showcasing their commitment and skills.
The program aligns with the United Nations SDGs, allowing students to report their volunteering activities against these global goals, thereby understanding the broader impact of their local service.
Service at St Peter’s not only recognises the efforts of young volunteers but also aim to instil lifelong values of community service, leadership, and social responsibility. By participating, students develop important life skills such as resilience, confidence, and agency, which are beneficial for their personal and professional growth.
