The impact of giving

generosity
of giving

For nearly 90 years, St. Peter’s has been celebrated for its commitment to delivering exceptional education. Our school is defined by a culture of excellence, a positive attitude, and a strong sense of community rooted in our Anglican faith. These values create a thriving, joyful environment where students grow in body, mind, and spirit.

St. Peter’s alumni are leaders across diverse fields, including sports, public service, business, agriculture, arts and culture, science, medicine, banking, law, finance, and academia. From nurturing beginners to supporting elite achievers, our world-class facilities and programs help students achieve their best. We are equally dedicated to fostering a sustainable future for generations to come.

Support from our community

The generosity of our community has been pivotal in enabling us to provide state-of-the-art facilities and innovative learning opportunities. These contributions enrich every student’s experience, and we remain profoundly grateful for this support.

Since the establishment of the Foundation in 2000, we have been privileged to benefit from the ongoing philanthropy of hundreds within our community. This enduring generosity builds on a strong tradition of giving, ensuring St. Peter’s continues to flourish and inspire future generations.

Brock and
Perry Pools

In 2009, more than 400 members of the St. Peter’s community came together to fund the construction of the Brock Pool. Named in honor of Michael Brock, a dedicated member of the school’s teaching and boarding staff, the facility features a 10-lane, all-purpose heated outdoor pool, serving both the school and the wider community.

By 2013, the success of the Brock Pool led to further development. Thanks to the generous support of the Brian Perry Charitable Trust and the Perry family, the facility was expanded to include a six-lane indoor 25-metre pool, which officially opened in 2015. This addition also saw the establishment of the St. Peter’s Swim School, offering valuable services to both the school and the Waipa community.

The Chapel Organ Restoration

The school chapel organ is a rare treasure, one of only two three-manual pipe organs in the Waikato and regarded as one of the finest in the country.

In the 1970s, the organ's original tubular pneumatic system—responsible for connecting the console to the pipes—became sluggish with age. The Old Boys’ Association (now the Alumni Association) stepped in to preserve it, fundraising for an overhaul that replaced the mechanics with a solid-state electronic system. The restoration was completed in the 1980s.

By the time the organ reached 85 years of age, another upgrade was needed to ensure its continued use. This included cleaning, resizing the console, and replacing the outdated solid-state system with a modern digital capture system to improve reliability. Thanks to the generous support of alumni and the community, the extensive restoration was completed in 2024.

Further work is planned, with the next stage focusing on restoring the organ’s bellows to maintain its exceptional quality for future generations.

Richard Vallentine Memorial Fund

Richard "Dick" Vallentine (1936–1957) holds a special place in the history of St. Peter's as one of its first pupils. A passionate and dedicated member of the school community, Dick cherished his time at St. Peter's and carried its values with him throughout his life. His deep appreciation for the school inspired him to leave a significant bequest, ensuring that future generations could benefit from the exceptional education and supportive environment he so fondly remembered.

In honour of his generous contribution and enduring connection to the school, the Vallentine Room at the College was named in his memory. This space stands as a lasting tribute to Dick’s legacy, symbolising the profound impact of his gift on the St. Peter’s community. His gift continues to inspire gratitude and a sense of belonging among students, staff, and alumni alike.

Linda Bragg
Memorial Fund

With a strong family connection to the school, including relatives who were teachers and a nephew who attended as a student, Linda saw firsthand the impact St. Peter's education had on children. Coming from a rural farming community herself, she deeply understood the challenges faced by families from similar backgrounds and wanted to ensure that students who might not otherwise have the opportunity could experience the same quality of education.

Driven by this desire to make a difference, Linda left a substantial bequest to the school. Her generous gift will continue to support and benefit dozens of students for many years to come, providing them with the same opportunities that were so meaningful to her and her family

Ways to
Give

St. Peter’s is deeply grateful for its rich tradition of philanthropy, a legacy built by generous individuals like Dick Vallentine, Linda Bragg, and school founder Arthur Broadhurst. Their selfless bequests have played a pivotal role in enabling the school to maintain its commitment to providing the highest standard of education.
