Winter Tournament Week provided another busy and rewarding week of competition for over 140 St. Peter’s students, with teams and individuals travelling around the country to compete at some of New Zealand’s leading secondary school sporting events.
St. Peter’s was represented across a wide range of codes, with our boys and girls teams stepping up to the challenge and competing against some of the country’s strongest school sporting programmes.
There were some outstanding performances throughout the week. After a late entry into the Premier Tournament, our Girls’ Football team quickly proved they belonged, securing a place in the top 16 on the second day of competition and, in doing so, earning an automatic spot in the Premier Tournament in 2027. Our Girls’ Hockey team travelled north to Whangārei to compete in the Federation Cup, finishing in the top 16, while our Under 15 Rugby team gained valuable tournament experience at the Lindisfarne Tournament, finishing third.
One of the week’s standout achievements came at the NZSS Road Race Relay, where our Under 16 Mixed team claimed the title of National Champions. Each team member completed a 2.5km leg, combining their efforts to secure a fantastic national result.
With teams competing from Whangārei to Christchurch, Tournament Week saw students travel significant distances and spend the week immersed in their respective sports. For many students, Tournament Week is about more than the results. It is an opportunity to test themselves against new opposition, experience different levels of competition and represent St. Peter’s beyond the school grounds. For our senior students in particular, it is also an important part of their sporting journey.
