Following strong performances at the St. Peter’s School Cross Country Championships, the top competitive runners from Years 9–13 were selected to represent St. Peter's at the Waikato Bay of Plenty Secondary Schools (WBOPSS) Cross Country Championships on 10 June, before many of the squad went on to compete at the New Zealand Secondary Schools Cross Country Championships in Upper Hutt on 20 June.
The WBOPSS Championships were held on the challenging Mangatarata course near Ngatea in the Hauraki Plains. Testing both endurance and resilience, the course provided the perfect opportunity for our athletes to showcase their determination and competitive spirit.
St. Peter’s students produced an outstanding set of results, highlighted by individual podium finishes from Mila Moore, who won Gold in the Year 9 Girls race, and Anna Phillipps, who secured Bronze in the Junior Girls division.
The team results were equally impressive, with St. Peter’s athletes earning an outstanding nine team medals across the various age groups. Congratulations to our following students and to our two year 9 boys, Austin Degustis and Mason Russell.

National Challenge in Wellington
Following their regional success, a squad of 30 St. Peter’s runners travelled to Wellington to compete at the New Zealand Secondary Schools Cross Country Championships in Upper Hutt on 20 June.
The national championship course presented a different challenge. While relatively flat, it featured creek crossings and a steeple jump, while persistent rain and strong winds turned the course into a muddy test of endurance and toughness. Athletes competed not only as individuals but also as part of three-person and six-person teams, adding another layer of competition throughout the weekend.
Despite the difficult conditions, St. Peter’s athletes demonstrated exceptional resilience and determination, achieving a number of podium finishes.
