Cabin Build Project by Riddet House

Cabin Build to raise funds for the Salvation Army

In Cambridge, New Zealand, a staggering one in five people face the daily struggle of putting food on the table. This alarming statistic was shared with the boys of Riddet House earlier in the year by Ben, the leader of the Cambridge Salvation Army. Upon hearing this, a partnership between Riddet House and the Cambridge Salvation Army began to take shape. In just the first six weeks of Term 2, Riddet House proudly donated 101 cans of food, offering much-needed support to the community.

Some of the boys had the unique opportunity to see firsthand where these donations were going, deepening their connection to the cause and inspiring the entire house to give even more back to the local community. Witnessing the impact of their contributions has energised Riddet House, and we are thrilled to announce our continued partnership with the Cambridge Salvation Army for this year's fundraising initiative of the Cabin Build.

Throughout the year, the boys of Riddet House, guided by our House assistants (who are qualified builders), will be building a cabin to be auctioned off once completed. This cabin will feature a small kitchenette and a bathroom, and will be constructed on-site at St. Peter’s, by the Morris House basketball courts. All proceeds from the auction will go directly to the Cambridge Salvation Army, which provides invaluable support to those in need in our local community.

We need your support

To continue with the project, Riddet House needs the support and generosity of the St. Peter’s Community. The boys of Riddet House are seeking donations of building materials, personal protective equipment (PPE), and other supplies. Anything you can provide would be gratefully received and will go a long way in supporting this amazing cause. We would like to thank our current supporters: Red Stag Timber, ITM Cambridge, Asset Group ltd, and Flooring Design. The boys could have not got this far without you.

Please contact Chris Dowdle, Riddet House Director, if you have any materials or contacts for building supplies or tools. chrisd@stpeters.school.nz
