2024 Speech and Drama Celebration Evening & Cup Competition
On 7 August, the stage was set for the St. Peter’s annual Speech & Drama Celebration Evening. Students from Years 9 - 13 relished the opportunity to share their work with friends and family.
In a world that is increasingly digital, evenings like this remind us of the irreplaceable value of human connection. There's something profoundly special about sharing a space, experiencing emotions together, and feeling the energy of a live performance. It's in these moments that we can truly connect with one another.
Our theme this year was Bringing the Drama, with performances created and inspired by all the things that make us truly human. Concepts were:
- Love - reciprocated or otherwise
- Friendship - that fierce bond between friends or siblings that can sometimes creep into frenemy territory
- Grief, loss and longing
- Opposing beliefs - and the moments when we are forced to look at the world from someone else’s perspective.
These emotions are universal; when we work on bringing these characters to life, we build a sense of understanding and empathy. The students performed with passion and confidence, and we would like to thank to the parents, caregivers and staff who came to support our rising stars. We were delighted to watch over 60 students across Years 7 - 13 as part of our Speech & Drama Cup competition on Thursday 22 August. There were performances across many different genres including Group Drama, Poetry, Improvised Drama and Impromptu Speeches.
