The attendees at the Technology Showcase last term were treated to a vibrant showcase, where students from various technology disciplines demonstrated the impressive breadth of their skills. The Year 11 Food Technology students, in particular, shone as they prepared and served hot finger foods as part of their term assessment. Their culinary creations were a hit, with families savouring the delicious bites whilst marvelling at the innovative projects on display.
Interactive experiences were also a highlight of the evening with guests having the opportunity to don VR headsets, immersing themselves in the cutting-edge work produced by students in Digital Technology and Design & Visual Communication (DVC). The integration of technology into creative disciplines was clear, offering a glimpse into the future of design and technology.
Representatives from Waikato University and WINTEC were on hand, providing valuable information to students about potential future career paths, helping them to explore opportunities in the technology and design industries. This element of the evening allowed students to not only celebrate their achievements but also look ahead to the exciting possibilities awaiting them after graduation.
Parents and students had the chance to meet with Technology teachers, engaging in meaningful conversations about the work on display and the curriculum that drives innovation within the school. Among the standout pieces were the lighting projects from the Year 13 Product Design class, which illuminated the event with creative flair. A specially designed Korowai display table drew admiration from attendees, showcasing cultural craftsmanship with a modern twist, using reclaimed Rimu timber which was believed to be centuries old. The display also featured award-winning designs from the Hokonui Fashion Design Competition, further underscoring the talent and ingenuity of the school’s fashion students.
Overall, the evening was a celebration of creativity, innovation, and the future of technology. It allowed students to shine in their respective fields, connected families and educators, and provided a platform for students to explore career pathways in a rapidly evolving technological landscape.
The event underscored the vital role that technology plays in shaping the future. In a world that increasingly relies on innovation, the skills students develop in the Technology Faculty are more relevant than ever. From food nutrition, hospitality and fashion design to digital technology and product design, these disciplines equip students with the knowledge and creativity needed to excel in a variety of industries.
The evening was not only a celebration of past achievements but also a reminder that investing in technology education opens doors to limitless opportunities. Encouraging students to explore these fields fosters problem-solving, critical thinking, and adaptability, skills that will prepare them to lead and thrive in tomorrow’s rapidly evolving world.
